Achievements and Awards

At BfN, we operate to the highest ethical and performance standards to offer independent, evidence-based breastfeeding information and support. When this is recognised and awarded, it reaffirms the fact that we are doing the right things and continuing to be driven by our mission and core values.

BfN was awarded the Good Governance award in May 2021, which is the Quality Standard for Scottish charities, recommended by OSCR.

Completion of the award provides proof that BfN is actively engaging in excellent governance through our Award Certification. It adds value and enables us to build a sustainable, better future for all of the families that we support.

BfN have been awarded three years of Good Governance Award status and will be involved in a forum to support re-assessment.

BfN is one of 7,000 Living Wage accredited employers across the UK because we believe it’s important to be a fair and considerate employer.

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by over 7,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs.

Fair pay is part of BfN culture and this sends a strong message to our partners, stakeholders and employers that supporting fair salaries for those working in infant feeding and early years support is something that is important.

All roles at BfN are part time and it is important to us that our staff feel valued. Becoming a real Living Wage employer helps with this.

Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme that helps orgnaisations protect themselves against a range of the most common cyber attacks.

It requires the implementation of basic security measures on all devices that access BfN systems on a regular basis supported by clear policies on system security and access.

BfN became certified in 2020 which means that all BfN laptops are required to meet the standard, all new laptops are compliant before first use and IT support is available to ensure that the standard is maintained in terms of user accounts, password protection, antivirus, software installation and internet security.

This all helps to minimise the risk of security breaches and increase the protection of our systems and data.

Investing in Volunteers is a UK quality standard that aims to improve the quality of the volunteering experience and ensure organisations acknowledge the contribution of their volunteers.

BfN is currently working through the Stepping into Investing in Volunteers process.  This requires us to look at all our volunteer-related processes against the standard and identify any gaps and actions that we would need to take to achieve the accreditation.
