CEO


Catherine joined BfN as Chief Executive in 2022, with a deep commitment to the importance of empowering all women with timely and high-quality information and support in their breastfeeding journeys.

She has worked in senior leadership in the UK voluntary sector, international development agencies, European membership bodies and in local government for over twenty years. Catherine is a Fellow of the RSA, Trustee of grant-maker Smallwood Trust and completed an MBA at the University of Nottingham, including a dissertation that explored family as a key social sustainability issue.

Outside work, Catherine enjoys playing and listening to music, cooking food from around the world, Russian language and exploring new places with her family.

Anthea is one of BfN’s Programme Managers overseeing commissioned services in England and Wales, overseeing commissioning work, setting-up and developing local services through UK-wide knowledge and sharing of best practice of BfN peer support work.

Anthea worked as an academic post-doctoral research scientist before having children and with that, a new passion for breastfeeding peer support.  Going on to train as a Supporter and Tutor/Supervisor with BfN, she combines these skills and experience with the role of Programme Management, where she is dedicated to the charity’s commitment in becoming more diverse and inclusive.

Usual working hours: worked flexibly Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm


Provides HR support for staff , managers and the Board of Trustees and is responsible for all things employment related

  • Responsible for the smooth running of payroll and staff being paid
    accurately and on time
  • Liaison with managers and finance on costing and staffing

 

Julie has worked as HR Manager with the Breastfeeding Network since 2015 and is pleased to have recently achieved her CIPD qualification.  With previous experience in the private, public and charitable sectors, Julie enjoys the wide variety of this role and getting involved in ad hoc projects.  Julie has two grown up daughters and lives on the Ayrshire coast. She enjoys singing in her local choir and is a Board member for her local book festival

Usual working hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.


Nina trained as a BfN Helper in 2008 and went on to complete Supporter Training then take on the role of Supervisor in her area.  She managed the Sandwell Project from 2010 to 2016 before going on to work as Programme Manager for England—supporting our Service Managers, developing relationships with new areas and setting up new services and projects.
She also takes a lead on Safeguarding with the other Programme Managers and the national evaluation of our work.

Nina enjoys swimming, running, reading and being outdoors with her family.

Sarah first became involved with the BfN in 2006 after the arrival of her first child and is an active Supporter and Tutor in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Hester started working BFN in January 2022 as the National Breastfeeding Helpline Manager.  With previous experience in social care and volunteer management, Hester is thrilled to be taking on this busy and varied role.

At home, Hester is Mum to one young child.  She enjoys getting out walking up hills in the local countryside.
